Dental Cleaning
|
• | To start, our dental professionals will do a physical exam. We can use a small mirror to check around the teeth and even the gums to see if there are any potential concerns there, such as gingivitis. If there are any major problems, the dentist will come in and check out whether it is fine to proceed with the cleaning. |
• | Using the small mirror to help guide the process, our dental hygienist will use something called a scaler to take any of the plaque and tartar that are around the gum line off and in between the teeth. There may be a little scraping. While this is normal, it may take a bit longer in areas where there is more tartar than usual. Brushing and flossing can help prevent the plaque from building up, but once it is in place, you will need to get it removed at our office. |
• | After the teeth are free of tartar, our team will be able to use an electric brush that will make a grinding noise. The sound is sometimes scary, but it is a good way to do a deep clean and remove any of the tartar that is left behind from before. |
• | These cleanings will use a toothpaste that smells and tastes just like the toothpaste you use at home, though there are some choices when it comes to the flavors. |
• | Expert flossing comes next. Even when you floss at home, nothing is better than having one of our experts do the work. They can look for any potential problem spots where you may bleed out of the gums. They will then do a rinse to remove the debris that may be left in the mouth. |
• | Our team can then apply a fluoride treatment to protect your teeth and help fight against cavities over the next few months. We have a few flavors to choose so you can enjoy it for a few minutes as we finish up. You will have a mouthpiece in place for a minute to get the fluoride treatment done with us. |
