Peoria, AZ

Crowns can be made of different materials. One of the most common crown materials is porcelain. Porcelain crowns are also very common, but why? Why is it important and such a valued material in crowns?

Benefits of Porcelain Material for Crowns

•  One of the biggest benefits of porcelain is that it is very tooth-like in appearance and is also durable enough to be used on a tooth. Whether you are eating, or biting into something hard, the porcelain tooth will remain durable. We do not recommend using your teeth as tools to open packages.
•  The different shades of porcelain ensure that our dentists will find a shade that perfectly matches your tooth.
•  Porcelain is not as abrasive as metal crowns or alloys, so you will not be risking any damage to your healthy teeth on either side of the crown.
•  Additionally, unlike some other crowns, we do not need to remove a lot of your tooth to make sure that your crown can fit.
•  Finally, porcelain can last for around 10 years, if not longer. The lifetime of your crown depends on your lifestyle and how much wear and tear you put on your teeth, but they still last a long while if you care for them. That means brushing, flossing, and caring for your oral hygiene.

Porcelain Can Be Used In Two Ways

You can either get a porcelain fused to metal crown, or a full porcelain crown. Our office will only recommend gold as a metal because it has the potential of being the longest lasting material in the mouth. Metal crowns add to the durability of the porcelain and very rarely break, while the porcelain gives you a natural tooth color.

Whether you want a full porcelain crown or you want a crown that melds porcelain with a bit of metal, both offer durable choices as crowns. You will get the benefits of porcelain either way.

How Do I Get A Crown?

It takes two visits to get a crown on your tooth. The first visit is all about inspection, examination, and reshaping of the tooth. X-rays are taken of your tooth and one of our dentists inspects the health of your tooth to make sure that it is not infected or has any signs of decay. The second visit is where the crown goes on your teeth.
